FCO to Civitavecchia by COTRAL bus

I was digging around on the COTRAL web site while waiting for a friend this morning, and learned that there is a bus connection from the airport to Civitavecchia.

 

I would love to hear first hand experience from someone who has done this.

 

It costs about the same as the train, and takes about the same amount of time, from what I can see.

 

It requires one change, just as the train does.

 

The bus from the airport goes to a main depot (Ponte Arrone) and takes 45 minutes.

 

(In the example I was looking at, next Tuesday morning, there was a five minute wait between buses)

 

The second bus, from Ponte Arrone to Civitavecchia, takes about an hour and ten minutes.

 

There are a couple of buses each hour, from what I saw on the web site.

 

Baggage up to 32 inches can be taken along for no charge, for bags larger there is a fee, according to the web site.

 

Has anyone done this? I'm wondering about it as an alternative to the train that eliminates the staircase problem.
