Jo and Rob Posted July 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Our ship has a short stop at Bari of only 3 hours! This is like a sea day but with a port stop. Has anyone been? Is the town close to the port? Is it an old historical town? We are wondering where to head for a quick look before we get back on board.
euro cruiser Posted July 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Bari has a lovely old town area, near the waterfront, which is perfect for a three hour stop.

raindropsalways Posted July 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2010 You dock near the “old” part of town, which can be a lovely stroll. I cannot remember just how much time we had in Bari, only that it was a short day. We walked from the ship to the Basilica of St. Nicholas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_di_San_Nicola We followed the ocean side road around to the east side and entered the Old Town near the Basilica. We were there on a Sunday during services and the museum section was closed, however we were still allowed to tour the Basilica. It is definitely an interesting church. From the Basilica we continued southwest to the Castle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castello_Svevo, however it was closed so we headed back to the ship. I don't think it took us more than a few hours. If you watch your time, you should at least be able to get to the Basilica and back without any problems.
