Vancouver Car Rental

Recommended Posts

We are disembarking ship August 6th and have an 11:15PM flight from Vancouver to CT. Has anyone rented a car at the pier? Or near the pier?

A cab ride to the airport is about $40.00 - $50.00, then a car rental is $70.00.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Avis, Budget and Alamo each have kiosks at Canada Place so renting a car will not be an issue. I am guessing you want to rent the car to do a bit of touring. However as an alternative you can check your luggage with Priority Baggage (who will even transfer it out to YVR for you) or leave it with the bell desk at the Pan Pacific or Fairmont's Waterfront Hotel and then take one of the HOHO's which are a great way to see a lot of the city in a short period of time, when you add up the cost of the car rental, fuel and parking fees at the various attractions never mind the hastle of driving in downtown Vancouver it is pretty much a wash. You can also purchase an all day transit pass at most convenience stores and travel to many of the sights on transit. When finished you can pick up your luggage if you haven't already sent it out to YVR and take the new Canada Line from Waterfront Station to YVR for $3.75 (CDN) pp or $2.50 after 6:30pm; this will take you about 26 mins but allow about 10 mins on either end for walking and waiting for a train. A cab will take about 35 mins and cost you about $35.

Putter already pointed out that transit (brand new subway line) runs from Waterfront Station (2 blocks east of Canada Place) to YVR. However, if you've got all that time on your hands, all day transit tickets can be had for $9 as well, and can get you to almost any tourist destination.
