Cinque Terre on Sunday by train, ferry

Our ship tenders in La Spezia on a Sunday mid-September at 7 am. Do the trains and ferries run on a limited schedule to Cinque Terre? We'd like to take the ferry from La Spezia to Portovenere for a short visit. Then, we'd like to take the ferry from Portovenere to Riomaggiore to start hiking between towns. We might have to take the train at some point if we think we're short on time. But, idealistically, we'd make it to Monterosso either hiking or using the train system and then we'd like to take the ferry back as far as possible---perhaps to La Spezia. I think there is a day pass for the ferries? Does this sound do-able? Does it rain often in September? Our ship leaves at 7 pm.
