13 hour port stop in Genoa

Family of 4 with 2 teens stopping at Genoa from 0700 to 2000. Prefer DIY. I think teens would like hiking Cinque Terre, but do you think we have sufficient time in port for this option to be feasible? Or do you think teens would like a day in Genoa at aquarium and forts? Is there anything in Portofino that teens would like (either active or historical)?

It's quite possible to take the train down and hike the Cinque Terre path.

You can catch the 7:47 IC train from Genoa P. Principe to Monterosso, the northernmost of the five villages, arriving at 9:02 AM. The walk from north to south is slightly easier than the other direction, and the walking should take between 4 -5 hours. That leaves plenty of time to stop at look around each of the villages, and have a nice lunch along the way. You could then catch the 3:11 train from Riomaggiore, the southernmost of the villages, back to Genoa, arriving at 4:58 PM.
