Train from Genoa to Milan or Portofino/Cirque Terre

Due to the change in port from Livorno to Genoa , I am debuting whether I should visit Milan (leaning towards it) or Protofino/Cirque Terre.

Has anyone taken a train from Genoa to Milan & return on the same day during a port day ? According to the train schedule, it leaves from Genoa (Tuttle le stazioni) & it takes about 1 hour 39- 44min on IC.

Has anyone taken a train from Genoa to Portofino and then continue to Cirque Terre ? I could locate the schedule for Genoa to Portofino but found nothing from Portofino to Cirque Terre. Am I missing something ?

Carnival Magic will be in Genoa from 7am to 8pm.

Please advice. Thanks

See this thread from earlier today about taking the train from Genoa to Cinque Terre: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1243683

Looking back at your original post, there are two potential problems. First, the area is spelled Cinque Terre. Second, it is an area of five villages, so you need to know the names of the towns. The northernmost is Monterosso al Mare.
