On Board Sales Tax

I believe that there is some confusion regarding Celebrity's sales tax policy for prepaid beverage packages vs. purchasing the package on board. When I last cruised with RCL leaving out of San Diego, I was charged local sales tax on drinks I had at a bar prior to ship departing port.

Since I want to purchase the premium beverage package (two), I naturally would prefer not to pay CA sales tax. I e-mailed Celebrity and got a reply from Ms. Lisa Webster, a customer service rep. Who informed me that no sales tax would be charged regardless of whether I purchased the beverage packages on line prior to the trip or while on board.

I hope this is helpful. However, I will keep of copy of her e-mail just in case. I specifically asked about a San Diego departure. Celebrity may have to adhere to different local requirements depending on a specific port.
