Litewait Posted February 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2005 Hi All, I am the "lucky recipient" of a 45 day gift letter. Not really lucky because my son now has a scar on his lip from an accident on board. Anyway, I am out about 50 days and wondering what to select. I'm thinking the photo coupons? or chocolates? I will take wine on board, don't drink champagne and there is plenty of food around. Any suggestions from those who have selected? Thanks! pholter Posted February 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I'd take the photo coupons personally. We always spend ALOT of money on the pictures cuz the photographers are really great on board...
hstrybuf Posted February 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I'd take the photo coupons. They'll last longer. ;)

Litewait Posted February 10, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I received my letter from Carnival along with a discount on a future cruise after my son was hurt on a cruise. I wrote a letter to Mr. Dickinson (pres.) expressing my concerns with their camp carnival program and their infirmary. Hindsite my son should have had stitches and the ship dr. basically blew it off and he now has a scar. (probably could have sued) but I'm nice. I received the letter for a discount and a letter to contact Carnival 45 days prior to our next cruise for a "special" gift. You are given a list of things to choose from ranging from chocolates, wine, pictures ect. I have heard they extend these to letter of compliments as well. Mine was just an unpleasant experience that should have been handled better. We have cruised Carnival 3 previous times, we loved the cruises and my son wants to cruise again so I guess we are ok. It's the least they could do. Happy Cruising! Donna
zydecocruiser Posted February 10, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I've heard of for taking the time to write a letter to Carnival. Sort of a thank you for going above and beyond the usual survey. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=95272 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=87602 I am somewhat surprised they didn't offer a discount or ship credit for such an unpleasant experience. RWolver672 Posted February 10, 2005 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I am somewhat surprised they didn't offer a discount or ship credit for such an unpleasant experience. They were offered a discount along with the choice of gifts. Most times when you write a letter to Carnival about your last cruise, either to complain or to compliment, they will send you a response. If it's just to compliment them or single out an individual for their great performance, they will tell you that they have forwarded it to the respective department and offer you a gift for your next cruise. You have to call the Guest Relations department forty-five days prior to your next cruise to tell them what you want. If you have a complaint and it warrants it, they will offer you a discount of 10, 15, or 20% off your next cruise to be taken within 18 months. (They will extend this if you plan on cruising shortly after that time).
Litewait Posted February 10, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted February 10, 2005 Just to clarify we did get a nice discount on the cruise we are taking in April as well as the letter. They got off cheap. It's a pretty good scar. Happy Cruising, Donna
PaulMedik Posted February 10, 2005 #10 Share Posted February 10, 2005 ............. my son now has a scar on his lip from an accident on board. ......... Litewait: Congrats on the gift. Stitches are not recommended for most lip lacerations, given that bacteria are likely present and not easily cleansed from the wound. Stitches are only recommended when the area can be completely closed and protected from contamination; not an easy task when dealing with the lips...nor on board moving ships given that it's a delicate microsurgical procedure. Anyhow, not meaning to change the subject, but chances are, your local ER would have opted for the same treatment. You can also consult with a plastics specialist and he/she can excise a lip scar and leave very little trace. They will need to numb the area, just as would have been required initially, then the procedure itself will be no more painful now than it would have been then. Litewait Posted February 10, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I hadn't worried about it much until now. It happened Aug. 03 and he was only 9 but he is almost 11 now and the other kids ask him about it alot and he is becoming more self concious about it. Who do you contact for that type thing? Go thru his pediatrician? Happy Cruising, Donna
addicted2traveling Posted February 10, 2005 #12 Share Posted February 10, 2005 It depends on the type of scar it is and its exact placement. They have different names for different types of scarring. Only know this cause I had lacerations across my face and eyelid. The ER only stitched the eyelid so for the face I went to a dermatologist the very next day and he had many things(meds, creams, special bandages) to help ease the scarring. Mederma was one thing I used and it can be bought at any drugstore and I have even seen it at Costco. It is kinda expensive but it does help with some aspects of scarring. If it is a kaleod scar(raised skin) then you may consider visiting a plastic surgeon. Hopefully the other poster will post again since it looks like he is in the medicine field and I just speak from experience. Hope this helps some. Litewait Posted February 11, 2005 Author #14 Share Posted February 11, 2005 It is a raised scar on the lower lip. It was pretty ugly when it happened. I guess we will see who we should contact thru the pediatrition. Can you see my son saying "I had plastic surgery at 11" LOL! kelly-NYC Posted February 11, 2005 #15 Share Posted February 11, 2005 Donna- I don't really have an opinion on the gift... I would probably do the champagne myself. I do have an opinion on the surgery and the legal situation. I am not in the medical field or law field either, but have had my share of plastic/reconstructive surgery and legal issues due to an injury about 7 years ago. I wouldn’t worry about his age and having plastic surgery. I am 30 and had surgery to remove a really large mole/birthmark from my face at 5 years old. I also had about 6 surgeries by a plastic surgeon due to an injury in my 20's. I would check with the pediatrician regarding a reference. Doctors seem to know who the best plastic surgeons are. My family doctor recommended the doctor who had done some cosmetic surgery on his wife! I was living in a much smaller town than NYC at the time and my surgeon was excellent! Anyway, I would also check with your health insurance company. Sometimes they will pay for scar revision due to a previous injury. Mine did. It depends on the insurance co and the situation. I would be certain to also check with a lawyer. It might not be too late to see what can be done. But going on another cruise at a discount due to the injury might constitute a settlement. I would check with a lawyer first. Just my opinion... Good luck!! Kelly
cruisecrazypat Posted February 11, 2005 #16 Share Posted February 11, 2005 Well, I HAD a 45 day letter. CANT FIND IT. Have the numbers off it. They initially wouldn't honor it for my 10% discount.. So I sent a few letters (with the codes), but cant find the original or the PHONE NUMBER to call. Any ideas? Pat
