taking my motorcycle .....?

Hi guys,

 

I am new to this forum and I have a question to you the cruising experts.

 

We will be crossing the Atlantic on Splendour of the Seas in November from Barcelona to Santos.

 

I want to take my motorcycle across on the boat, but the agency said NO.

 

As I dont take NO for an answer .... what is the next step you guys would try?

 

Contact the captain? Just show up in the port with the bike?

 

Custom clearance will be done in Brazil by myself ( I speak Portugese) or by my agent.

Sorry, but you aren't going to be allowed to take your motorcyle onto the cruise ship. The cruise line reserves the right, as a matter of your contract (reservation) to decide what you can and cannot take onboard. Stow the motocycle idea or the idea that you will be cruising because you won't be accompanied on the trip by your wheels. Have you considered shipping the motorcycle to your destination? It won't be on the same ship as you, but that's about the only solution available to you.

Mike, No idea how you would go about setting it up but we were getting off a cruise ship in FL one time and there were about 50 motorcycles being loaded on. Must have been a special group but maybe you could hook up with something like that. Good luck! :)

Give RCCL a call directly, I know in the past folks have been able to stow their motorcycles on board during their cruise, so I don't see why it would be an issue for you.

Mike we have seen motorcycles being loaded and offloaded in Aruba. There must be a way, just keep checking, and good luck. We also look for places to rent a bike while cruising to different areas.

I've watch motorcycle groups get off of several ships. I thought it was great for them.

RCCL does sometimes allow motorcycles to be brought onboard the ship, but only if it's arranged in advance and usually it's only on the Voyager class ships as they have storage specifically for motorcycles. The OP is asking about a Vision class ship which is probably why he was told no.

That is very interesting about the Voyager class having storage for motorcycles. I think it is a great idea and wish they had incorporated that into the other newer classes as well.

The newer classes might have the storage, I'm just not aware of it. I know the Sovereign, Vision, and Radiance class don't have it.

It's not a place specific for motorcycles in the ship, it just happens to be a place available for parking them. And it's not something that you can do just because you want to take your bike with you, it is on specific cruises only, thru specific travel agencies.

As I said, there is no SPECIFIC to motorcycles storage on ANY of the ships, they simply allot a place for the motorcycles when one is scheduled to have them on, during my 13-night cruise in March/April on the Explorer we parked the bikes in 3 different areas due to ships needs at that time, one time underway they needed the space where the motorcycles were for another reason, a few of the riders were gathered and we moved the bikes to a new location. And they do this on the Oasis also, so I'm guessing that means the newer ships have available space for it, but there is nothing specific to parking motorcycles anywhere on the ship.

 

The OP is pi$$ing in the wind, he is trying to cargo a motorcycle from one country to another, there is more than just Royal Caribbean involved here.

Thats strange, there is one June 11-16, 2011 on the Enchantment of the Seas (Vision Class) out of Baltimore to Bermuda, with the motorcycle tour group. :eek: Again, there is no SPECIFIC storage area for motorcycles.

It's a tour group and you pay a premium over the regular cruise price, (drop me a personal message for more info). But you also have escorted rides on every island you ride. We didn't ride Dominica or St Lucia, but did ride St Thomas, St Maarten, Barbados, Antigua and San Juan, so the bikes were unloaded at each port you ride along with the end of the cruise of course. Bikes are loaded/unloaded by the owners of the bikes only. Insurance is taken care of by the host on the island employed by the travel agency along with registering each bike with the local MVA (or equiv) on each island. It's really a great way to see the islands and as you can see by my ticker below, I have another scheduled for February. :D

sooooooo.....how the heck do ya cruise for 7-12 nights by showing up at the pier with enough luggage and your scooter??? (How ya get everything there?) I see you would save money on parking (kind of).....you wouldn't have to pay at the port, but ya darn sure are paying for having your scooter on the ship. They obviously allow "foreign" plates in each country. They must make arrangements with the local authorities allowing this.
