Foxhill Posted August 5, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2010 Does anyone know whether there is a way to get from NYC to Quebec City other than flying or driving? I will check the Amtrak website, but was hoping that there are those who have personal knowledge. We want to fly into either NYC or Quebec City and then travel from one to the other not having to deal with a rental car or airline. Thanks to all. GTJ Posted August 5, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2010 Yes you can, but there is nothing direct between New York City and Quebec. In all cases you have to change at Montreal. Between New York City and Montreal, Amtrak operates one daytime train daily. It departs New York at 8:15 a.m., arriving in Montreal at 7:10 p.m.; it returns from Montreal at 9:30 a.m., and arrives back in New York at 8:40 p.m. There are several trains daily between Montreal and Quebec. However, the last train of the day leaving Montreal departs before the train from New York arrives. Thus, you would either need to stay overnight in Montreal, or depart on one of the frequent (and high-quality) buses from Montreal to Quebec operated by Orleans Express. The buses depart from a different station in Montreal, but it is a short trip by either taxi or subway; the bus ride is 3 hours. In the return direction there are early morning trains from Quebec that would arrive in Montreal in time to board the Amtrak train to New York City. There are also several buses each day between New York City and Montreal, operated by Greyhound Lines and Adirondack Trailways. Change in Montreal for Orleans Express buses to Quebec. Personally, I find the Amtrak train to be one of their finest routes in terms of scenery, especially in winter when surrounded on one side by the snow-covered Adirondack mountains and on the other side by the ice-covered Lake Champlain. Below Albany the train follows the very scenic route alongside the Hudson River. The train is not always timely, and plan on arriving sometime between the scheduled time and one hour later. http://www.amtrak.com http://www.viarail.ca http://www.orleansexpress.com http://www.greyhound.com http://www.trailwaysny.com

I don't have personal knowledge other than to say that both Quebec city and Montreal are delightful and well worth a visit. You would have to stay at least overnight in Montreal and change trains. (same station)' Amtrak runs from early AM in each direction from Montreal to NYC, Takes about 11 hours through delightful countryside (lake Champlain and Hudson River. Via rail runs 3X per day from Quebec city to MTL. Takes about 3 hrs. http://www.viarail.ca/en/trains/ontario-and-quebec/montreal-quebec-city/schedules Amtrak_W68.pdf

Master98 Posted August 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2010 If you decide to take the plane, Continental Airlines operates four flights a day between New York (Newark) and Quebec City.
