If you loose your passport while traveling out of the country, a copy is your best bet to get another from the US consulate in that country.

 

I'll keep my passport in the ship safe and take a copy. I'd rather take the risk than risk loosing my original and have trouble getting back in to the US. To each his own.

As a Canadian, I am under the impression that our passports will be taken from us when we board our ship and returned when we leave. Therefore..there will be no opportunity for us to carry anything but a copy when we are in port. Right???

 

On Carnival's website under Travel Documentation, for Canadian citizens, it says:

 

Canadian citizens need at least one of the following:

 

• A valid passport

 

• An original birth certificate or certified copy of a birth certificate and photo I.D.

 

so I doubt they would take it from you since you are not required to have one.
