How early can you board ship?

Lets say the time listed on my itinerary is 4pm.. Does that mean we board at 4, or the ship sails at 4? How early do they allow boarding before ship sets sail?

Nornally, boarding starts around noon. Thats if the ship get into port and clears customs on schedule. People start lining up around 11:15-11:30

Terrific! We're getting in the night before and I know I'm going to be really excited to hurry and get onboard and see the ship. :) I had no idea the festivities started earlier in the day until I read a scan of someone capers. :)
