cruisenfever Posted August 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2010 On the Jewel Sept 4th-- arrive LGW at 7 am--- Taxi service says terminal doesnt "OPEN" until Noon-- That doesnt sound right --- anyone been there lately? FRANK Hi Frank, you might want to post your question over here British Isles/Western Europe (Amsterdam, Brugge, Dublin, Edinburgh, London (Dover, Harwich, Southampton)) Also remember that once you arrive at Gatwick you must go through customs and immigration, then collect your luggage. The ride to the port of Harwich is approximately 2.5 hours. They will be disembarking pax off the Baltic's cruise, so until the ship is cleared and those pax have left, we won't be boarding until 11:30 or a little thereafter....so maybe that's what the taxi service means when they say it's not opened until noon. Rare fb0075 Posted August 14, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted August 14, 2010 Thanks Patti But what he said was that they didnt allow any traffic in until noon--this doesnt compute--we have been on 91 cruises and never seen this--of course ,normally, you can sit at the terminal unto ck in apx 11:00 or so-- thanks and cya on board FRANK
jennywren46 Posted August 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2010 We drove there a couple of years ago and Im pretty sure we were onboard by 11am.I know the car park and shuttle bus to the terminal were running and we werent the first people on board. The windjammer opened at 12 and the rooms were ready by 1pm.
time4me2fly Posted August 14, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2010 Are you arriving the same day the ship embarks? You might want to consider arriving one day prior to sailing, if possible. You will be exhausted after long flight, 3 hour drive to pier and if there are any kind of delays it will be a longer day. Plus there's jetlag to consider. Here's the port website: http://www.harwich.co.uk/port_cruise.asp You can also take a train to the port and avoid the horrible London traffic. TO_HockeyMum Posted August 14, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2010 We were on the July 30th sailing and were at the pier by 11:30 and there were lots of people getting on board. Unfortunately, we weren't on until 2:00 since hubby had to drop-off 4 of us and luggage, return the rental car in Colchester and have his cousin drive him back, fighting an accident back-up both ways. Silly us, we should have checked in first, and have him leave the ship again, but it shouldn't have taken much more than an hour normally. When we returned, there were people arriving by 9:30 am, although I don't know when they would let them on board. They were just starting to transform the luggage offload area into the check-in area... Enjoy your trip! It's a beautiful ship!!
