Going to the airport between back to back cruises

We are thinking about taking B2B cruise on the Destiny. I was pondering the possibility of having a friend of my 16 year old child join us for the second half. Does anyone one know if we could disembark and go to the airport to pick up the friend then reboard? I cannot think of a reason why not, anyone?
