Iraklion, Crete - Private Tours

Can anyone suggest any Private Tours to use while in Irahlion,as the ships shore excursions are so expensive?

If you are interested in the beach, just grab a Taxi driver and have him take you to Karteros beach.. its a 7 minute drive from the ship and its $35 Euro round trip (only pay part of it on the way out, and then pay him the rest on the way back). We ended up paying $20 Euro each way since we didn't know to set up the round trip price up front.

 

Crete beaches are not as beautiful as Santorini, but it was a nice day to spend a few hours relaxing at our last port stop. We had done heavy touring at the other ports, so it was nice to have a quiet day at the beach.

I concur with Kantaros beach-we took the public bus for 2.60 euro a person-worked out great :)

I just got back last week....I can't say enough good things about our guide, Lefteris Nikforakis elnikigr@yahoo.com he charges 35 euro's per hour (we had 4 in our group) and made our 5 hours in port not only enjoyable but made an otherwise boring port quit memorable.

We did the 14 day cruise...and booked guides in almost all of our ports. Lefteris was by far and away our favorite day guide.

He was waiting at the port in his immaculately clean Mercedes Benz with a huge sign with my name on it just a few feet from where we disimbarked. He spoke perfect English and even crowded to the head of a very long line to buy tickets at an archeological site in order to maximize our precious limited time in port (we reimbursed him).

He insisted on buying us local pastries during our our coffee break, kept his car running just so the car would remain cool for us once we got back in and did all of the little things that made us feel like special guests. His tour maximized our limited time and returned us to our ship safe and sound. He was amazing.
