Can anyone tell me if there is a tourist tax refund scheme for the USA ie Alaska in particular, similar to what is available in Canada and here in Australia? Thanks Sue

Hi Sue!

There is no VAT in the U.S. and there is no state sales tax in Alaska. There will be room taxes and local jurisdictions are able to levy their own sales tax. To my knowledge, there is no tourist tax refund program like in Canada and Australia.

There has been an initiative AGAIN to place a $50 tax per head on all people visiting Alaska on cruise ships.
