Suggestions for Eastern Carribean port tours

The Floaties

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are on the Soltice October 3. We are wondering what we should do in the ports of San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. We are in our early 60's, but fairly active.

We do not arrive in San Juan until 2 PM.

We are not drinkers or really shoppers. We would like to get a feel for the culture of each island and maybe visit a nice beach----something relaxing----maybe a little snorkling....although, I can't swim.

Just looking for ideas.

Thanks. This is a great site.

Do a tour to learn about the island and the culture of the people- On St. Thomas we always book with GODFREY TOURS- he's very reliable, courteous and a great value for your $- check out his website- I think it is godfreytoursvi.com,but you can find it if you google godfrey tours. His tours include shopping time and beach time-we've gone with him 3 times. On St. Maarten, we recommend BERNARD'S TOURS- we've toured with him before, and his is an enjoyable and very interesting tour. We always do his tour in the am and grab a cabride to Orient Beach for the afternoon. We're not big shoppers, either, but don't miss Mr. Tablecloth in St.Thomas- beautiful linens and helpful staff.

Have fun on your cruise!:)

You best place to start, with much more information than you'll find here, is to visit the Cruise Critic boards for these ports of call. Each one has their own complete forum which you can browse through, search for topics of interest using the search function, and ask questions at.

The best place to start is to browse the forums at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=587 Then read the Celebrity excursion list on their website or down-loadable excursion booklet then go from there.

Generally San Juan is best for just walking the town to see the sights in the old Spanish Colonial city. See the old city walls, architecture and forts.

In St. Thomas or San Juan you can do water sports, touring, snorkeling, shopping, sailing, snorkeling, beach sitting, etc. If you do ask for more recommendation then try and thing which one of these types of options appeal more to you. You'll get better suggestions if you ask about touring in St. Thomas if that is what you prefer, or if you ask about, for example, snorkeling there, if that is what you'd like to do.

Our favorite things: St. Thomas - day sail snorkeling tour through one of the private small sail boats like the Rumbaba. St. Martin - Orient Beach and then shopping.
