KRUZLADY Posted February 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2005 On the destinations section of CC is says the best beach to visit for a 1/2 day visit is Mullet Bay Beach. Does anyone know anything about that one? I think we are going to shop half day and beach half. I also noticed on a St Maartin site they state the shops are open 8/9:00am to noon then 2:00pm till close. Does that sound right to anyone? thanks!! Coolcruise02 Posted February 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2005 We went to Mullet Bay for 1/2 day and then to Mayo Beach to watch the airplanes land. We caught the bus in town to Mullet for $1.00 and it took about 15-20 min. then we walked from Mullet to Mayo. (10-15 min walk) We really liked both beaches. Just beware Mayo has no trees or umbrellas (would be blown away when jets take off). :)
gtaylor Posted February 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2005 Mullet Bay Beach is a fine beach, lots of locals use it on the weekends. It is also, as mentioned above, within walking distance of Maho (not Mayo) for the airport landings. Maho DOES have umbrellas. Sunset Beach Bar has chairs and umbrellas available on their side of the beach, perhaps too many umbrellas. There are recent complaints about them blocking the view of the arriving aircraft. Shopping: You split the island using your spelling of St Maartin. The French side, St. Martin, does shut down mid-day for lunch. The Dutch side, St. Maarten, typically stays open all day, until the majority of ships leave port.
