Has anyone spotted a manatee while snorkeling in Belize? Where were you? What time of year was it?? Thank you!

Manatees usually stay near the slow moving saltwater areas with seagrass so think estuaries and mouths of rivers and inland lagoons with feeds to the ocean. You're least likely to see them around the reefs off shore. Boat and tours will typically stay away from known manatee areas unless specifically going to them for manatees. They are protected specieis and boats will stop or slow down significantly when within 100 feet or so of any known nesting area. Manatee areas in Belize are generally further north or south of Beleize City than most snorkeling excursions will go under time constraints. Most snorkeling goes out to the various cayes and reefs offshore. If you want to see manatees, you might look for a specific manatee excursion. The Northern and Southern Lagoons are relativley nearby and tour operators may offer day trips there.
