Hey Mike

Glad you had a good time overall. I will also be doing a b2b soon on Epic. Do you know who will be replacing Slam Allen when he leaves in Oct??

Also do you know when the Legends performers will be changing??

Thanks

Mike...

I thought this WAS your review. There's going to be more??? Can't wait to read everything you have to say.

Missy...

Sam Allen leaving in October??? When in October??? I have a sinking feeling we will be missing him as our cruise begins Oct. 16th. Please say it isn't so....

Nooooo...we want to hear/see Slam Allan and all the entertainers that are on now!!! :( Ok, we will get over it...maybe  I don't know, maybe I'll send a nasty letter to NCL and tell them they have ruined my cruise by changing the entertainment after I booked!! I want free cruises for life and additional OBC!!!;) Yes, I'm just kidding!!! We have been on two NCL cruises and the entertainment has all been top notch!! Disappointed that they are making the change before we board, but hey I'll still be cruising! Life is good!!!!!! ;):)

Just curious what you thought about the fish and "chips" in O'Shehans...how did it compare to what you have at home (UK)?

We liked the Fish and Chips but that green dip is NOT mushy peas as we know it.

The Fish was good but not really what we have back in the UK. When we buy a piece of battered cod it is in the shape of a fish. Clearly the cod or possibly pollock fillets used on board are frozen fish pieces the sort of which you buy frozen in UK Supermarkets. Nevertheless very nice as was all the food I tried in O'Sheehans.

One thing that made us laugh is that the Daily Special was Shepherds pie.......every day that we visited O'Sheehans except they chose to spell it Sheppards Pie. I did hear someone say one day that the speicial was a Philly Steak Sandwich ?? However as I say on the 4 or 5 times we visited at lunch it was always "Sheppards Pie".

Hi Mike,

Loving your review. Sounds like you had a blast.

When we were on in Aug. (B2B), O'Sheehan's had 3 rotating specials - the famous Sheppards pie (spelled correctly a month ago!), bangers & mash and Irish stew. So every 3 days I looked forward to the shepherd's pie and found it very tasty.

Regarding Slam Allen, couldn't agree with you more. We were there every single night for 1-3 sets! There was a fantastic guitarist among the guests and he rocked it out every night with the band, Ron Brown came in to hit the keyboards after he finished his own work down in Taste restaurant, and other entertainers (from Legends to Howl at the Moon) also stopped in to jam. Utterly fantastic and one of the main reasons DH wants to go back on Epic.

Slam has been on since the start so it's time for the band to get off and take a break. Actually Slam will be touring with the James Cotton Band when he gets off in Oct. However, we were told both by Slam and the Entertainment Dir. that he will be back in Dec. so a winter return sounds good to us!

coffeebean, are you going back on in Dec.?

Does anybody know the name of the replacement band? Maybe the poster who knew they come from New Orleans?

For us Fat Cats was the highlight of our cruise.:D

Mike - your mushy peas observation is bang on the mark! Also these are not chips but french fries. Chips should be as thick as your thumb and mushy peas need to have some substance to them rather than green thick gravy! However the fish was good even though not a recognisable species.

All in all I loved O'Sheehans especially the Chicken Pot Pie and Vanilla shakes (post casino at 2am). I did mention the spelling of Shapherds Pie to the Maitre D but it went over their heads (Cruisin'Cockney makes an "over their heads" motion and sound a la Jeff Hobson).

LOL

That bugger got me up on stage as part of his act and did the old Whooooooooosh (Over my head) thing to me.

He really was a great entertainer.

Love listenening to your thoughts too Crusin' Cockney.Speaking of Jeff Hobson....he is another performer I am really looking forward to seeing. I've watched a couple of his bits on YouTube and he is so funny and talented. Anyone know when Mr. Hobson is leaving Epic??? Are we going to miss him too???

Ahhh, well that is good to hear. But I also think the OP stated it was a standing room only venue? Having a chair would be great! (So long as people don't fill in and stand in front of me!) :D

It's not a standing room only venue. It's a turn of phrase. I meant that on the second from last night of our cruise it was so packed that all chairs were taken and toward the end of the evening it was standing room only for late comers. There is at a guess seating for 150 people in Fat Cats, maybe slightly more.

Hey Mike!

Welcome back to good old blighty!

I know i'm late with that and you have been back almost a week now though!

Just taken me ages to find your review , it had vanished pages back, i'm so not liking this non epic specific forum ha ha :)

Loved your thoughts on the cruise and really pleased you had a great time.

Glad you found the cabin ok, i remember when we first posted on that other forum how small they looked! - Though we have 3 to fit in ours but at least we have a big balcony :D

Btw - Happy belated 40th, did post on the old thread but you prob didnt see that. - It's a real shame about Tepanyaki though :( hope you still had a brilliant birthday. Your comments though have confirmed what i feared about that restaurant though about it all tasting the same so unless there are rave reviews prior to our sailing it's one we won't bother booking.

I'm also disappointed to hear Slam Allen is leaving, had hoped he would be on our cruise but probably being too optomistic there but fingers crossed you are correct and maybe he will rejoin for the med, though i expect his replacement will be just as good (well hopefully). Hoping the Jeff Hobson info is also correct from cruisin' cockney as he sounds a blast!

So, if this is just your thoughts , when are you posting your big proper review ?? :D hee hee.

Oh and booked your next one yet?

Sam :)

Oh and good grief i still have 331 days to wait !

Just caught up with this board, as have spliced an Indy cruise in before Epic!

Sounds like you had a great time, really looking forward to next May now :)

Seriously Craig you will love both of your cruises.

Yes Ocean Village is special but trust me RCI and NCL knock spots off of them. RCI Freedom class is very nice and my NCL experience was great fun. I came back very very very tired though. :)

To be honest I think I actually drunk far too much alcohol on board to recall everything adequately to post a full review ports and all but essentially what I said above sums up my experience of the Epic and NCL.

Not booked next cruise yet but thinking of a 7 day Eastern Med out of Venice on Jade next May or June.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes and 331 days is a blooming long time to wait so I think you should bring it forward.

You will love it by the way. I am sure of that.

Now that has made me laugh about the alcohol! Good to hear ha ha.

Yes, 331 days is a blooming long time and I keep considering bringing it forward but then we would end up with only the cruise and no prior and post cruise fun in lovely Barca and surrounding area due to school holiday dates.

I know that wouldnt be so bad, but i'm expecting the cruise to be tiring to say the least, all that onboard fun and having to trawl round old ruins in Italy during the day ;)

Just posted on your other thread about having had enough of ex US cruises, Jade out of Venice would be fab! - One we considered too , you do it first and you can tell me all about it! :D

Sam :)
