French Franc

I know France is on the Euro system but can you still exchange Franc notes at a bank? I have a 20 franc note from a while back. Thanks!

Yes, but only one bank. You'd need to contact the Banque de France and request an exchange.

Pursuant to the Act of 4 August 1993, which came into force on 1 January 1994, banknotes that are no longer legal tender after 1 January 1994 are still redeemable at all Banque de France branches for a period of ten years after the date on which they stopped being legal tender.

You can use the following solution to exchange your french banknotes :

by registered mail to :

Banque de France

Caisse Générale

- Service 18 -

10, Boulevard Duclaux

63407 Chamalières Cedex

France

Since the note is worth about 3€ it might be a better option to frame it along with a photo of your last trip to France and use it as a reminder of a nice trip ;)

Just to add some hints for people who have notes in greater value they might like to exchange.

There are only a few note left which can be exchanged: 20 Francs, 50 Francs with the picture of Antonine de Saint-Exupéry, 100 Francs (Paul Cézanne), 200 Francs (Gustave Eiffel), 500 Francs (Pierre and Marie Curie).

The dateline is 17 February 2012.

After this date your money will loose all its value!

For all other notes (with other denominations or pictures) it is already too late.

If you are in Paris you can go directly to a branch of Banque de France.
