car rental in port or city??

Hello We are o the Windspirit and will be in Santorini on Oct. 7th. We think we would like to rent a car for the day(in port8-9:30pm). As I was researching there are rentals at the port? thira, and city center. Any ideas as to where is the most convenient place for us to rent?Does a rental car make sense? Thanks

We rented a car and had a fantastic day. Due to the length of time that you'll be in port and the time of year (past the busy tourist season) I think it's a great idea. Do not rent one at the port of Athinios (that's where the tenders go for those on cruise line excursions, and the ferries use this port as well).

 

If you are renting ahead of your visit (probably not necessary, but it might speed things up for you once there), either Thira or city centre should work. We used Tony's, which is about a 10 minute walk from the top of the cable car.
