In Nassau Oct. 2-9: Best Out Island/Snorkeling Trips?

Since I'll be there a week, I'm hoping to get in plenty of snorkeling time and hopefully check out various beaches/out islands (day trips, not overnighters). Any feedback I can get on snorkeling trips/out island excursions would be appreciated. Heard Rose Island was good for snorkeling, and also have seen trips to the Exhumas (Harbor Island) and Peterson Cay. Also read that Love Beach was good, but I've read some threads about poor beach conditions and crime and not sure if Love Beach falls into that "iffy" category.

We would like to rent scooters and stop at different beaches that are safe and pretty. Any ideas?
