Montserrat on cruise day - Sunday

We are in the planning stages for our April cruise from Barcelona. As it stands today, we are interested in seeing Montserrat the day of departure as we will not have a post-stay.

Our plans are to arrive in BCN Friday before we sail. We will spend Friday and Saturday seeing the city. Sunday morning we want to catch the train to Montserrat. We likely would only be there a couple of hours and think it is worth the trip. We figure everyone will want to see the Boys Choir at 1:00 so we can head back right before that and miss the crowd. We will go back to the hotel to get our luggage and taxi to the port.

Thoughts or Feedback on our plan?

Personally, I would do any out of the area trip on a non-departure day, so if there's any problem, it doesn't cost you making the ship. Any reason not to do it on Saturday instead and then make Sunday a local sightseeing day? You have a good plan, and I'm sure nothing will go wrong, but just the chance would make me do it on a different day if possible.

Best,

Mia

I am not sure if you are only want to do some photo stops with the boys choir...

Let's do a bottom-up planning...

The only ship I would do it it's NORWEGIAN JADE in winter which sails at 19.00 hrs.

All others normally sails at 17.00 hrs.

17.00 hrs means

16.00 hrs latest check-in time

15.30 hrs hotel to port (might vary where your hotel is located)

15.00 hrs Placa Espanya to hotel to pick-up your baggage (or are you travelling with all your cruise baggage to Montserrat)

13.15 hrs departure time by Aeri (Funicular) or same time by Rack Railways from Montserrat to be back by 15.00 hrs at Placa Espanya.

So if you think that your hotel is close enough to Placa Espanya or Port and you can lower the time of 1 hour between Placa Espanya and Port you might go 1 hour later.

As said before: I could not enjoy the boys choir with the thinking that I need to be right on time on the ship or on the Funicular which capacity is limited and you might not want to come the last minute to make sure that you get on the funicular.

Nevertheless:

According to their website:

The boys choir should sing at 12.00 hrs on Sundays.

Here is the schedule for the FGC-trains from Barcelona and Funicular:

As we are planning our tour (one day before embarkation but January 1... Happy New Year...) - hope you have also discoverd the special combination tickets:

We just did this last week. Is there a reason you are waiting until Sun?? It took us the better part of the day to make this trip from the city center in Barcelona. The trains only leave at certain times from the city center. It is a 2 hr trip, if you don't miss any trains. It is a lovely trip, I think you are limiting yourself to 2 hrs, only. I would think about doing it on Saturday. ENJOY!!!!:D:D

Some additional information...

We are sailing NCL Jade and our hotel is AC Diplomatic. We have not booked our flight but are planning to arrive early Friday morning.

Our tentative plan once we are settled is to catch bus 24 to Park Guell. We will have purchased a HoHo bus ticket and will catch it at park guell. We want to just ride both color lines and see as much as we can. Once we've done that, we will decide where we want to get off for futher exploration. For dinner we want to head to Port Olimpic (?) as it looks like a cool area.

Saturday we would like to visit the Boqueria market, Montjuic, and Magic Fountains Saturday night. As a result, we thought Montserrat for Sunday. From other posts I thought the Boys Choir sang everyday at noon except Sundays.

Another thing that we are considering is that this particular weekend is Palm Sunday. We might have to rethink some things but that's why I posted here...;)
