Thanks Thied :) nothing on Lombok but did get a couple of ideas for other places ..good read ..i have plenty of time to research though ...PACIFIC SUN ..FLOWERS OF ASIA SEPT 2011 ...Now when i get more spare time i will try to find some reviews from previous Flowers of Asia cruise ..any links for this Thied ??? all info greatfully received :)

We have booked a shore tour that ends up on Kuta Beach-

I want to get the feel of the place but both hubby and I want to have beach time relaxing.

I had wanted to do a Gillis Island snorkle tour but it is not offered this cruise. Maybe too rushed getting over there and back.

Check your cruise personaliser for the tours and if you want to do your own thing you may get some ides from this.

Also Check all previous posts- I have - Look also under Asia.

I know we could do things cheaper but I don't want any stress, haggling or uncertainty. I want to be in CRUISE MODE

ok this is very simple!

 

When you arrive at lombok walk past everyone in the port compound and outside the gates of p&o safety:D

 

As soon as you are outside the gates you will be mobbed by street sellers,if you have never experienced this B4 then it can be a bit daunting but persist!

 

Once outside the compound just say " I need a driver" and you will be fixed before you can blink:D

 

Negotiate the price and agree no more than $45 AU for the day,go back inside the compound and collect your traveling companions then escort them through the hords and hop in the Van/people mover.

 

Tell the driver you want to go to Senggigi beach with a stop off on the way for a coconut drink.

 

The driver will take you to the place where all the P&O tour people end up but before them:D (you also beat all the street sellers that follow the tour buses)

 

Then ask to go to the shopping center in Lombok and he will wait for you the whole time

 

Kuta in Lombok is also nice if you have time.

 

The whole tour will cost your group no matter if one or six $45 plus a tip.

 

If you use the drivers inside the compound it will cost a lot more as they have to pay a high price for the privilege of picking up rich cruiser!

 

The police commissioner owns all the tour rights when a ship comes in and locals have to pay a sort of tax to him unless you go outside the compound.

 

Have fun Lombok is fantastic,some who have never seen this way of life think they dislike it but they are just a bit frightened of the whole "in your face" hard sell street sellers,just keep your cool and wits about you.

 

Dont pay the driver under any circumstances until he drops you back at the P&O compound.
