djmaine Posted September 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2010 I'm debating on what to do in Belize. My choices are either a day at Bannister beach, or go into the port and shop then spend the day on the ship or shop then take a carrage ride. We are going with a 4 yo so options are limited, we don't want to do the ruins or the zoo. Has anyone done the carriage ride, if so, can you give me details on where they took you, stops and costs and safety.

There is a booth there where you tender to port. It cost $20/person I think. Or at least I paid $20. They will give you a colored sticker so they know who all is on the ride. They then escort you outside to the carriage. The one I took had 4 rows of seats with 2-3 people/seat. When you leave the confines of the shop area there are lots of "vendors" who will start calling you to sell stuff. This is why they escort you. As long as you are with the guide they didn't approach but sure tried to get your attention. The guide then gave a tour of Belize telling the history of the different places. The only stop was at a local store so some of the group could taste a local beer. I didn't go in the shop but my seat mate did and she thought the prices were high for stuff. We wondered if the guide got any kind of kickback by stopping there?? The whole tour took about an hour to hour and half. Was a nice tour and would have even liked it to be a little longer maybe with more stops. Then when you return to the shop area the guide stops near the entrance so the "vendors" don't approach but are still vying to get your attention to sell their wares. Some excursions here will have more frequent boats and they'll bring you back to the Tourism Village so you can "shop". With a 4 year old, not a lot of other options.
