Phone Question?

One of our group, on the Grand 3-5-05 asked about using her cell to call home (Houston) and check on her kids. Given the ports that the Grand will visit, can she use her cell to call home? Next best option?

we were on the Enchantment last June and had cell phone service all through our cruise except during a storm near Belize. Otherwise we all could call out and even receive calls. We have cingular, don't know if that matters or not.

I've been on most of the Caribbean islands, and have used either ATT or Verizon phones and the only places either phone worked was St Thomas and Cozumel.
