Traveling from London-Dover-Amsterdam-Paris (first time explorer)

Hi, I would need some guidance on which would be the best form of travel (either by rail, ferry, plane) how one would travel from London to Dover to board a Ferry to Amsterdam. Also, what would be the best and most cost effective way to travel. I would also like to know the costs for the travel passes in London ie. zone 1234... Is there a website I could view for costs of travel in the UK, and which places would be of interest to a 27yre old first time UK.EU cruiser...

Easyjet are another low cost airline that goes to Amsterdam http://www.easyjet.com, and nowadays even British Airways offers some competitive flights to Amsterdam http://www.ba.com.

Also, Im not actually sure there are ferries from Dover to Amsterdam - most ferries going to Amsterdam go via Harwich to Hook or possibly from Felixstowe.

Network rail will give you ideas of railfares and timings :http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

This is the link to London Transport for underground and London bus travel, with maps, costs etc http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/

Hope this all helps!

There are absolutely NO ferries between Dover and Amsterdam or any other places in The netherlands.

The ferry from Dover brings you to Calais in France.

To the netherlands your best choice will be the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland. They have a few day and one night sailing.

There are more sailing from northern UK cities.

You can have a look at airlines like www.transavia.com and www.easyjet.com. They are low cost airlines, but do not have a big free baggage allowance.

To add to the list of airlines, try bmi as well, which sells on a low-fare airline model although it's a full Star Alliance member and it flies from Heathrow.

The only airline that has an unusually small baggage allowance is Ryanair - 15 kg per person free. All of the other airlines have the standard international allowances of 20 kg or 23 kg. The low fare airlines like Ryanair and easyJet are more likely to charge you if you're a few kg over - the big airlines are more likely to overlook them (although there are never any guarantees). But if you try to take big luggage, you'll have to expect to pay.
