San Juan-Advice needed for 2nd timer!!

The first time we were in San Juan on a cruise we hired a cab driver and had a spectacular all day tour which included the fort, and we even got to meet the first woman governor!

Now we will be arriving on HAL Westerdam and will be there from noon until 8:00pm. Not late enough for the Biobay tour :(

Any suggestions from your experienced ones for something "different" than just a shopping day?

It sounds as if it has been a while since you visited.

There are loads of options.... what do you like to do-taxi tours, or walking tours, or active tours?

And the day of the week you are visiting makes a difference in what is available.

There is a bike tour of SJ or Pinones, or you can head to Pinones on your own and bike/walk or kayak even.

There are tours of El Yunque.

You may be able to go to Caguas and see the gardens and museums and try some wacky flavored ice creams.

The are SNUBA, SCUBA, Jet Ski trips, small boats to rent, and Segway tours all available in San Juan/OSJ areas.

There are some adventure tours that are 1/2 day trips. They may be able to accommodate your times. These usually include hiking, rappeling and zip lines.

Lots to do!

What is the Biobay tour? Our ship will be in port on a Sat. from 3pm to midnight.

Someone on another thread mentioned Sat night festivals. Does anyone know anything about where they are held?

The "BioBay" is one of the 3 bioluminescent bodies of water that are here in PR. There is a microscopic organism that lives in these waters and they make a "glow" when they are bothered (you move the water). So the water looks like it glows. It is a natural phenomenon that happens in a few places where it happens, but here in PR we have 3 bays where it happens all year round....a very unusual thing.

There are tours that go through these bays....the ones you may be able to do as a cruise stop are the Fajardo BioBay (and possibly the Vieques one).

It is a neat experience to see and not something you can see in many other places in the world.

I think the Saturday "festivals" must be what is happening in OSJ on Saturday nights . There will be vendors and some live music at the restaurants, and lots of people around and maybe something else....but no scheduled festivals that I know of every Saturday.

Thanks for the info. Can you recommend any tour companies that go through the bio bays/

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions! I do wish we could have done the Biobay tour, but the Segway tour sounds like a great option! We have been through the entire fort, so we will probably go on the shorter tour.

Any suggestions for a great lunch or cocktail/munchie spot after the tour?
