Has anyone heard anymore about the passenger who fell overboard on a Fred Olsen cruise? I find it hard to imagine how someone can actually fall overboard accidently unless they are thrown or are "doing a Titanic" on the rails! I supose you could purposely fall overboard. Has anyone ever heard of a P&O passenger falling overboard? Its a pretty horrific thought! If it turns out that it has happened its very sad for him and his family. Not the best way to end your holiday.

From what I can gather he was 79 years old...Sounds like it could be a tragic accident, poor soul...

I agree Juglar, I don't think it was a accident. How can a 79 year old accidently fall over board? Surely you would have to climb over the sides somehow?. Which are what? 4 foot hight everywhere to stop children toppling over, I would say this was a suicide . It was at the end of the cruise as well, perhaps he was seriously ill and wanted to go that way after a cruise, who knows.?

A woman committed suicide on our Solstice cruise last October. It was very distressing for everyone on board, but particularly for her family when they eventually identified who it was. This poor woman climbed the rail, as you say very difficult to fall accidentally. A very tragic and desperate incident.

We were in the lift on a transatlantic crossing once with the ship's doctor and nurse who were escorting an elderly man and his wife back to their cabin: he had just been prevented from jumping overboard.

 

The couple were confined to their cabin for the rest of the crossing and flown home as soon as we reached land. Very sad.

It's about a young women on a cruise who is tipped overboard by her low-life husband in a murder attempt. It's quite a fun read. Not much of the book is set on the cruise ship, it's mostly about her plans to get her own back. Fun, though - a typical modern crime story with lots of dry wit.

Slightly OT again, but I am directing two murder mystery plays in two of our local Theatres. One is called 'Who killed the Ship's Captain', the other in the local theatre in a seaside town :rolleyes: 'Who killed the Hotel Manager'.

 

Back on the main subject. I do not see how nyone can 'fall overboard' unless drunk. larking about, or intentional.
