Inaugural sailing

You risk having your cruise canceled if building is delayed.

We thought we had booked an inaugural sailing but the ship was finished earlier than expected so they added two pre-inaugural sailings . That meant we did not have all the perks of being on an official inaugural sailing.

Although sometimes the ship may still have some "teething pains" , there are sometimes special guests invited to sail, some parties, gifts for those on the sailing . They often give you the book on the ship to keep and some other nice souvenirs.

The first time the ship visits a port, there can be very nice welcomes from the locals, like fireworks and bands playing. Luckily we still had that happen as the 2 previous sailings did not go to all the same ports that were scheduled for on our itinerary.

It is fun, but keep it in mind that plans can change when booking so far in advance.

We are looking at the Silhouette in July 2011. It is 7 days so it fits our schedule better but only one port call. We have never been on a brand new ship. Thought it would be fun but had some concerns. Never thought about the ship not getting done in time. Thanks for your thoughts.
