CDNJehn Posted October 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2010 I've been looking at the reviews on the boards against the excursions offered by our ship. Wondering if anyone has been to both ruins and can comment on which they preferred? From the photos I've seen Xunantunich looks more impressive, but it seems most people go to Altun Ha. Thanks! suewill444 Posted October 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2010 There is a third ruins in Belize that you can tour. It is called Lamanai. I have been to Altun Ha....while it is very nice, I have booked my family to go on the Lamania tour next month. Everything i have read about Lamanai is that it is beautiful and not to be missed. Have a look at Lamanai too before you decide.
wdowns9 Posted October 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2010 Been to both of these impressive sites, just take a look then decide: we are going to Altun Ha in Jan as we've run out of ruins to visit: http://wdowns9.smugmug.com/Travel/Lamanai/6971590_4qGBV#446235325_7jNS5 http://wdowns9.smugmug.com/Travel/Xunantunich-Ruins/3434004_FSUYS#192547985_DBVXF
diane.in.ny Posted October 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2010 It's really a toss up but if I had to vote it would be for Xunantunich
2112 Posted October 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 21, 2010 Xunantunich is more impressive than Altun Ha. It is higher, prettier and less crowded. You also cross a river via an interesting crank ferry. From the top you can see into Guatemala. I would rate the ruins you can visit on a cruise ship day as follows: 1. Lamanai 2. Xunantunich 3. Altun Ha 4. Cahal Pech You can see pictures of all of them on my website: http://www.pbase.com/2112/belize

Lawless1973 Posted November 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Did you book you Xunantunich through the cruise line or privately? If privately, who did you use?
