Shaken_Bake Posted June 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2004 So here I am at work, but with only 2-1/2 weeks to go before my cruise, NO WORK IS GETTING DONE (don't tell the boss!) I spend WAY too much time reading Cruisecritic.com! So what song should come on the radio, but the Royal Caribbean TV commercial theme song, Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life." Once I stopped laughing, I started listening carefully to the lyrics. I do love the song, it's a perfect beat for getting people to watch the commercial, but have you ever really heard the lyrics? Here comes Johnny in again With liquor and drugs And a fast machine He's gonna do another strip tease. Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion? I've been hurting since I'm up again With something called love Yeah, something called love. Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens. Well, I'm just a modern guy Of course, I've had it in the ear before. I have a lust for life 'Cause I've a lust for life... That's just the first three stanzas! "Of course, I've had it in the ear before...???" Now this is the best use of a liquor and drug-oriented song to promote a family cruise line that I've ever heard of! Anyone got any suggestions for getting through the last 17 days before a cruise?? Sailing on Enchantment July 5, 2004

Host Jacquelyn Posted June 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Considering it was essentially the anthem for the movie Trainspotting (although the song is actually older than that), I too was surprised when RCCL adopted it as it's commercial theme song. I guess they figured people wouldn't search out the lyrics --Jacquelyn Hyde Read my Detailed Explorer Review!! Read my Detailed Brilliance Review!! Brilliance "Hump" Cabin Photos (Room 9092)! Click for aft Royal Family Suite (Cat AA) photos!
AdrieneAGD Posted June 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Yeah, not exactly a smart marketing move. "Hey guys, I've got this really catchy song we should use. Nevermind it's about a guy getting wasted off his @$$."
