IBRelaxin Posted February 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2005 Need some help! Would love to snorkel the cenotes, actually would prefer SCUBA but have some non-scuba certified travelers in our party. Does anyone know of a tour operator online that offers such tours, or can this be done on your own. Which ones are the best, etc. :)
rockedge Posted February 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2005 I don't know about progresso, but in Cozumel most of the dive shops do cenote dives. They take you to the mainland to do it.
Zeno Posted February 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2005 Near Progreso at the Dzbilchaltun ruins is a nice cenote that you can snorkel in. We did this several years ago. VERY deep at one end. Lots of little fishes.
IBRelaxin Posted February 21, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted February 21, 2005 Zeno, how did you get to that site, by taxi? If so any idea of the cost... is there an entrance fee?
Zeno Posted February 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2005 Sorry - don't know what the cost would be to get there by taxi (when I went I was on a tour). There will be an admissionto get into the site (did not really pay attention since it was included in our tour) See the ruins and the little museum while you are there. The cenote is a short walk from the entrance. There are very large (nice for changing in and out of wet bathing suits) very clean washrooms at the entrance. lisaland15 Posted February 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2005 We were there in Dec. (through ship's tour). The guide said it was something like 130 ft. deep at the one end. It's fresh water and it's connected to an underwater cave.
