user43147 Posted October 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2010 This may have been addressed in previous posts. I'm sorry if it has. But, what is the closest decent casino to where the Cruise boats (HAL) dock? I have heard it is the Sheraton? Is this correct? Thank you so much. rainforestgirl Posted October 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2010 There is a casino in the Sheraton hotel across for the pier. Or you can take a taxi and go to Isla Verde and have a few casinos within walking distance of each other in the hotels.
alilspunk Posted January 11, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2011 how are the casinos in San Juan? do they have the newer games/slots, etc? anyone ever win anything decent there?
stratixman Posted January 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2011 What, you don't find getting fleeced by the cruise ship casino to be sufficient? Now you've got to seek out casinos in San Juan for some more punishment? LOL.

daydreamer16 Posted January 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2011 We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard in Isla Verde near the airport 2 years ago. My DH won $1000 the first night on a Blazing 7's slot machine. He was only playing $1 a pull! It was great, we were celebrating his birthday! pbrady Posted January 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 16, 2011 We have been to this casino many times - the latest being Feb 2010. I is an older casino & it looks warn. The machines are the older ones, but living in the Detroit area (with 3 pretty larrge casinos) there were some we hadn't seen before. They had a lot of one cent machines, two cent, but fewer of the higher machines like fifty cent or dollar. They seem to have very, very, few of the one or three line slots - like the 7 - 7 - 7 or whatever, but more of the 9 through 20 line ones. I hope that helps. Anyislandwilldo Posted January 18, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2011 Will the ship's casino be open while in this Port? On our last cruise, when we were docked in Aruba, the casino on the ship was open.
TOlson70 Posted January 18, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 18, 2011 Isla Verde is a good suggestion, but keep in mind that is out by the airport. The Embassy Suites there has a decent casino. Closer to the port is the area called Condado, and the Conrad has a very nice modern casino. I was there in December and they were just installing a new bank of new slot games. Enjoy! pbrady Posted January 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I can say that in over 20 cruises, I have never seen a ship's casino stay open while in port - I didn't even see that in Aruba. It was my understanding they had to be in international waters to open & that means some set distance from the shore.
Marysunshine Posted March 5, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2011 I agree about casinos being open in port....except I think I heard that they can be open in Bermuda. Not certain.

The port can give permission for a ship to have the casino open while in that port. It doesn't happen often but we have seen it on HAL ships when at Curacao. I think it might be a "courteous nod" to the Dutch connection. :) This was as recently as this last year.
