Careg Posted October 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2010 I have not heard what crossing the pacific is like out of Vancouver to China. Any idea if there is a better month to do this crossing...
paul929207 Posted October 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2010 There may be better months to do the Pacific crossing, but you don't have a lot of choice. I thinkthe only ship that does it is the Diamond Princess. Westbound in the fall and Eastbound in the spring.
Maryandi Posted October 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2010 We crossed the Pacific in Sept. ' 08 - 10 days at sea to Northern Japan - weather was fair to good. Then back again in Nov. via the Southern Pacific , same weather. Then this year we were up/down/and all around the Pacific (World Cruise) before going to the Mid-East, this was in February/March - only diversion was in New Zealand. So we were fine (we were fine everyday actually). Back in 2003 we went from Vancouver to Ft. Lauderdale, in Sept/Oct and had swells and dodged 3 cyclones - but had no problems. We were well taken care of by both Princess and Holland America in all our time in the Pacific (and Atlantic). Enjoy, M.A.
cruiserus Posted October 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2010 We sailed from Vancouver to Beijing, via Alaska, a few years ago. We had pretty calm seas from Vancouver to Whittier, but out by the Aleutians, we hit a big storm and things were rough for a few days. That being said, it was still a wonderful trip. We enjoyed the novelty of the storm and the amenities of the Sapphire very much.
Careg Posted October 25, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted October 25, 2010 For me its all about the captain and the crew... A few years back we were on the mercury in and out of san francisco. I never felt confident in the crew that was in charge.. We lost power out of san francisco and floated around for a few hours. It appeared that the crew were just not all there. They were jumping and running all over but seemed scattered. As for HAL and Princess I always feel completly confident and safe in thier abilities. BTW- a year or two past the san francisco episode a news story came out about drinking/drunk captain on the mercury.
Druke I Posted October 25, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 25, 2010 We've crossed Eastbound twice, May 89, on Sea Princess, Kobe Japan to Vancouver BC via Honolulu, 15 nights, good weather, and April 87, Sky Princess, Osaka Japan to Vancouver BC via Vladivostok Siberia and Aleutian Island, very cold trip, 19 nights. Once Westbound, San Francisco to Sydney Australia via Marianas and Solomons, warm weather trip, 27 nights.
Druke I Posted October 25, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Forgot to put in date of our Westbound on Sky Princess: September 2000.
Bill B Posted October 26, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2010 In April/May 2002 I was on the Regal Princess, 32-day eastbound (Yokohama - San Francisco) and it was almost 'flat calm' for the vast majority of the voyage.
