Finland Shipyard to close after Allure

From USA TODAY [The Finnish shipyard that has built some of the modern era's most famous cruise ships, including Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas, is preparing to shut down this week due to a lack of new orders, according to a local news outlet]

 

[Finland's Helsingin Sanomat today reports the completion of Royal Caribbean's new Allure of the Seas this week will leave the STX Europe shipyard in Turku, Finland almost completely silent for the first time in years].

They signed an agreement to build a new ferry so it will not be closed for long but will employee less workers than before until things pick back up.

Yep they are gonna start to build this for Viking Line and it will be used on Turku-Stockholm service starting 2013.

Yesterday in the Finnish TV news, the Finnish Vice president of RCCL said that markets for big cruise ships looked good, but he couldn't promise any new orders.

 

How about "freedomizing" the Voyager class ships? All ships coming back to Turku for a little extension :)
