jerin Posted October 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2010 If you're driving to Mexico, then yes, you need the passport for a child (or a passport card). If you're cruising closed circuit (starting/ending at the same port), you're fine with a birth certificate, as long as nothing unforeseen happens ... in which case, you'll likely be in a foreign port (or hospital) for several days while the State Department clears everything for you and your child to travel back to the US.
