My Canon died on the way to Glacier Bay and I wouldn't have any photos if it weren't for my cheapo pocket camera. As soon as we docked in Sitka I made a beeline for the camera store and bought a new Canon DSLR. Many years ago when I shot professionally I found that having back-ups for every piece of equipment made the difference between finishing the job and not finishing.
