BethV114 Posted November 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2010 I'm looking at booking Embassy Suites for DH, DD and myself pre-cruise. Do they have a shuttle from the airport and is it included? Also, is there any place that we can walk to for dinner and for picking up last minute items? Finally, approximately how long/much is the cab ride to the port? Thanks in advance for the help! BobT172 Posted November 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2010 Embassy Suites discontinued their shuttles a few years back. However, a taxi from the airport is about $15 plus tip.... it is very fast and convenient. You can take a taxi from the hotel to the cruiseport for $10-15 or your can arrange a shuttle with the hotel for $7 per person. There is ALOT of resturants and shopping on 17th St near the hotel...a Publix and Total Wine is in the plaza immediately behind the hotel..there is an Outback 3 minutes out the side door and numerous other resturants and shops within minutes walk. We have stayed there 8-9 times precruise... nice Manager's reception and cooked to order buffet breakfast... If you are a Hilton Honors member, use this number on the corporate code line when booking to get a great rate..if not, you can join on line code number: 0560041604
Jim B Posted November 5, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2010 I would recommend not worrying about a shuttle in FLL. We did it once and took 1.5 hours to get to the hotel from the airport. And Embassy Suites discontinued theirs a few years ago anyway. A taxi takes right at 15 minutes. The taxi that took credit cards cost us $14.00 and the one that did not cost $15.00 and that was with tip included!! To go from Embassy Suites to the port will cost about the same price or you can pay $7.00 + tip per person and ride their shuttle to the port. 1st time in FLL we stayed at Holiday Inn Convention Center, (because of shuttle), but have stayed at Embassy Suites the last 3 times and will again. Very centrally located. 3 liquor stores, Ross for Less, Drug Store, very close, and open mall right behind the building. Lots of places to eat close by. Here are some ideas for you. All within a two block well lighted area and level ground. Bravo Ristorante http://www.bravoitaliano.com Bimini Boatyard. http://www.biminiboatyard.com Chuck's Steakhouse http://www.chucksflorida.com Also a Outback Steakhouse across the street. commission1 Posted November 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2010 Cant you just walk to the cruise port from the embassy suites, we will only have one rollerboard and one backpack, I thought the pier was only four blocks away, thanks in advance for your assistance. BobT172 Posted November 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 23, 2010 Yes you can walk if your ship is at Pier 2 if it is the only Princess ship in port. However, if there is more than one, it could be down in Pier 29 (which is where the Ruby was our last cruise)... the port is highly industrialized, huge and many places unwalkable.. I would not try to walk to other cruise line piers...
royalcruz Posted November 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2010 Publix or Winn-Dixie are the closest places to pick up last minute items. Restaurants on the same block as the hotel are: Carlos & Pepes, Chuck's Steakhouse, Quarterdeck, Kelly's Landing, Duffy's Sports Bar & Grill, Waxy O'Connors Irish Pub. Jim B Posted November 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 24, 2010 Well the entrance to the cruise port may be a very long 4 to 5 blocks from Embassy Suites but the distance to where the ship is docked from the entrance could be over a mile. Plus as BOB T 172 said there are areas you may not want to walk thru. This is a commerical port first and cruise ship port 2nd. Lots of big trucks, cranes, forklifts, all over the place. Actually I wonder if the guard at the entrance would let you walk thru. Have a hunch they would say no. Either take a $14.00 including tip taxi for two or three of you or for $7.00 per person + tip take the Embassy shuttle.
cruzkitty Posted November 24, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2010 We ate at Chuck's Steakhouse last time in FLL, and it was very good. Will definitely be staying at Embassy Suites again in Sept-really liked it.
