Isle of Wight recommendations

Morgans

Recommended Posts

We would like to add a few days staying on the Isle of Wight before our cruise from Southampton and were wondering if anyone could recommend a quality hotel/restaurants which we could book. We are looking for something smart and comfortable. We will be taking the car over so don't mind a drive. Any suggestions ?

many thanks,

Margery

Depends whether you want to be pampered or DIY in style

http://www.royalhoteliow.co.uk/index.asp

will give you the former, whilst

http://www.shanklinmanormews.co.uk/

will give you the latter. Shanklin Manor Mews is owned and run by seasoned cruisers, is comfortable accommodation and gives you the facility to ‘eat out’ within comfortable walking distance.

Both are in quiet surroundings and are idea for daytime excursions into the Island.

How long is a piece of string?

There are of course many B&Bs on the Island along with the larger hotels which are now into the coaching season with the ‘Turkey and Tinsel’ mode in full swing :(

The Warners Bembridge coast hotel (adults only) is lovely with very nice bedrooms, food and good evening entertainment. But they do long weekends Fri to Mon, and mid week breaks Mon-Fri, depends if it fits your requirements.

Have you stayed there? Have you seen the link even ?

The Royale rooms have four posters, a telescope on a stand with views of the solent, I saw quite a few cruiseships sail passed when I was there, rooms have wine, sherry, fruit bowls and a box of chocolates on arrival, a spa bath etc.... The Signature rooms are good too , even the basic rooms are very clean, modern and comfortable...

At well over £100 pn.I would call this a quality hotel, and I've stayed in many 5*'s /4*s. The Royale is £200pn a bit upmarket, perhaps the Morgans may be interested in something a bit cheaper? But not a self catering cottage?

At the top end of the market is one of the Islands newest 4* hotels is Lakeside Hotel in Wootton

http://www.lakesideparkhotel.com/index.php

alo along the same lines is the Priory Bay Hotel, In Seaview which is very nice as well & in a fab setting, Madonna, Tom Cruise & other celebs have stayed there & so has Mick Jagger (when he was headlining the IW festival a few yaers ago)

http://www.priorybay.com/

or http://www.seaviewhotel.co.uk/ another nice one!

Other hotels which are good and not as expensive but also good are

http://www.newholmwoodhotel.co.uk/ which is part of a chain and has great seviews of where the the ships come down Southampton Water. There are Travelodges Qulaity Inns etc. We also have (as has been mentioned before) plenty of smaller hotels & B & B's & if you want a locals opinion before you book something - just ask!

In case you didn't know if you imagine the island as a Diamond, the South East part (sandown & Shanklin) are the more touristy side, The West wight is more rural & mainly an area of outstanding natural Beauty, County town bang in the middle, Yachting captal of the World is in Cowes ( mainly in August - Cowes Week!) & Th eNorth East quarter is a bit of a mixture of all with the Islands Second biggest town, Ryde, Being located in this bit. As the Island only measures 13miles top to bottom & 26 Miles East to West you should not get lost!!!!

When you want to know where to go give me a message!!! GOOD LUCK!:)

Wow - that's a great reply. Thank you so much. We now have quite a bit of hotel research to do and will have a good study of all the options given. I'm sure out of all of them we will find something to suit. Thank you for all being so kind.
