We will be going on the helicopter/dog sledding tour @ 11:00 AM. Would like any of your suggestions on what to do afterwards. We will be with our kids 13 & 18. Since the 11:00 tour is expensive, looking for something less expensive for the rest of the day. Any suggestions???

A lot of people recommend the Whitepass Railway. We couldn't fit it in so we booked a coach tour that takes a lot less time and stops for photos along the way. It only cost us 25 pp booked through Frontier Excursions. Other people have recommended Southeast Tours (I think). You might want to check out something like that. :)

Hi!

We loved the White Pass RR and it might fit your time frame. Another option we have taken was the Historic Street Car tour. These are not street cars (with tracks) as you might think but old 1930's touring cars that are driven by guides in period garb. You get a nice tour with a running commentary on the history of Skagway and the Gold Rush. It usually concludes with a one-man show complete with a slide show. It was enjoyable and we took it after the morning White Pass RR tour.

Just make sure you leave a little time to walk the town. The historic district is compact and scenic.

Have a great cruise!

We could go on the 4:30 White Pass RR. Looks like the Serenade has this time on the list of tours, so we wouldn't have to worry about missing the ship. Is the White Pass RR something not to miss? Do you think this is something a 13 & 18 year old would enjoy?

Low cost king in Skagway- National Park Visitor center. http://www.nps.gov/klgo/schedule.htm

Also this is just an excellent biking city, or walk about the town, consider the level 1 1/2 mile back to the Gold Rush Cemetery, a good look at residential life along the way, or hike up to Lower Dewey Lake??

It's a fascinating train journey - see our pics here.

Thank you very much for your replies. I think they are all great ideas! I have researched a bit more and have decided to rent a car and go to Emerald Lake. Sounds like we should have plenty of time to make the trip. It is very reasonable for four.
