Mystkl1 Posted November 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Were booked on the Elation out of Mobile for 11/11 were doing the stay and cruise with the Hampton. Anyone have any pointers for us for the Mobile area, hotel or the port? The Hampton does not have a shuttle service, but as long as your luggage is wheeled and not too extensive, you can walk to the port. The hotel will provide you with good directions. Otherwise, the parking at the port, while not inexpensive, has never presented a problem for us. We live in Mobile and have usually just parked at the port, but have shared the cost with friends travelling with us. The Hampton we have used for Mardi Gras functions and the rooms and service are good. You'll be getting back as we're boarding, we're leaving on 11/15. Hope you have a great trip! If you need more information, just ask. I'll be happy to try and help.
Ronn452 Posted November 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2010 If you have any interest in ships, a tour of the USS Alabama would be good for a couple of hours. It would give one an idea of life on a naval vessel. Also, it was used in a Steven Seagal movie several years ago. As for restaurants, if you like seafood, there are several. I personally like Wentzels downtown. It is the original and seems to have better service than the others. It isn't at all fancy, but has great fresh seafood and attentive staff. On the causway past the USS Alabama, there is the Fish Camp. Also, good food; a bit pricier, but a great view of the bay and Mobile's lights in the evening. Lastly, a drive down Government Street will give you a nice view of some beautiful old homes in Mobile. Oh, yeah, on Dauphine Street, just a block or so from the Hampton is a roasted peanut shop and across the street, a chocolate shop. Have a great cruise. h_blond2 Posted November 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2010 If you have time either before or after your cruise you definitely need to visit the Mobile Botannical Gardens...it is free to enter the gardens and is a beautiful place! As a previous poster mentioned, it is well worth the money to visit the USS Alabama. There are also airplanes and a submarine that you can not miss! I loved exploring the submarine! Allow extra time for embarkation...it was a big mess when we crusie from Mobile last May.
2bfirsttime Posted November 10, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted November 10, 2010 thank you everyone! Great ideas. Were in the car on our way down now. I have to admit, I slept in and it looks like it will be this evening when we get there, so we will check out some nightlife.
