Transport: St. Maarten-St. Barth's

We'll be on Mercury, in port at Philipsburg Dec 7, and might wish to do a day trip over to St. Barth's. I've been checking ferry and air schedules and am pretty confused. Has anyone had much recent experience with getting there and back? Thanks!
