JStarbrite Posted February 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2005 I have heard of cruisers using these to keep track of kids on board. How well do they work? I noticed that they require a FCC license. Is this necessary in international water or out of the country? Any suggestions of what brand or model? luv2cruise03 Posted February 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2005 We've taken ours on the last 2 cruises. They work great. You sometimes have to change channels, but it still works. I just got mine at Wal-Mart. We also use them traveling down, since we go with friends of ours. They have 2 and we have 2, so between the 8 of us it works really well. chieft26 Posted February 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2005 We've used them on every cruise to keep in touch, and they work great. I wouldn't worry about the FCC thing....I don't think it means much these days.

Boston6 Posted February 22, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2005 They work fine. If you're looking to buy some, make sure you get ones with lot's of channels so you don't have to deal with others using your channel. I'm not sure of the technical aspects but some have a dozen channels with 10 sub-channels for each. Using the sub-channels you weed out other folks. So if you're on channel 5-4, you'll only get someone who's on 5-4. If you don't have the subchannels, you get everyone who's on 5.
