Ecstasy Nov. 8 Review

We live about an hour from the port. This was our third time on the Ecstasy. We arrived about 11:00 am. Parked the car at EZ Cruise and they drove us to the pier. This was our 10th Carnival cruise, so we were able to use VIP check in. There were only two people checking in VIP's. It took us longer there than if we had gone directly to the regular check in. Don't know what the hold up was. We finally got on the ship around 12:30 pm. Went to Lido and had lunch from the deli. DH and I both ordered Ruben's, which were quite good. After lunch went down to our room and it was ready. This was the first time we had a porthole room. It was great. A little noisy when docking but we are usually up by then anyway. Put away a few things from our carry on and then went exploring. Got our DOD and wondered around until Muster. Much better without the life jackets. After Muster we went to the front of the ship and watched about 50 dolphin swim around the front of the ship as we sailed away. Returned to our room and our luggage was there so we unpacked.

Tuesday was a sea day. We got up early went to breakfast in the MDR (did this every day). Then we went to work out at the gym. It was pretty busy but we were both able to get a bike. After that we took a walk around the track. We then changed into our swim suits and headed for the pool. Spent some time there and then headed off to lunch. DH and I both had pizza which was quite good. Then we went to the Serenity area to relax for awhile before getting ready for dinner. We had Your Time Dining (we did not have to wait any night for a table). Our waiter was namd Aquino and he was definitely the best waiter we've ever had. We didn't go to the show in the Saphire but instead went to the adult comedy shows. Both comedians were very funny.

Wednesday we arrived in Progresso. Since we had been here twice before we decided to just walk around and take the double decker bus. The fare is $3 per person and is quite fun. We walked around the market and a few of the streets near it. We also walked the malecon and stopped at Buddy's for drinks. Wandered around the stores near the ship and then boarded the ship. Managed to get two lounge chairs by the railing at Serenity and stayed there for sail away. After that we went and got ready for dinner. This was cruise elegant night and they served lobster tails for dinner. We requested a table in Aquino's area and were able to get one (as we did for the rest of the cruise). Walked round the ship for awhile and then called it an early night.

Thursday we were in Cozumel. We hired a private driver (Gerry) and he took us around the island. First we went to a grocery store to buy some sodas and beer and then he drove us to the north side. He pointed out several beautiful houses, the airport and golf course.. He also stopped at a few monuments for us to take pictures. He then headed towards the east side of the island. On the way he took us through some parts of Cozumel and pointed our some schools, churches and children's play areas. Our first stop was at the "Pee Pee Stop" where the restrooms were very clean. They also had a very nice selection of black coral. We were then off to San Gervasio Ruins. We paid our entrance fee and walked around ourselves without a guide. The ruins are small but were very interesting. We then went to a tequila factory where a margarita and chips and salsa were included in the entrance fee. Our guide told us how they used to make tequila and how it is made today. Purchased some tequila for us and some for gifts. We continued on to the east side of the island and stopped at Playa Bonita for lunch. It was very good. This side of the island is very beautiful but there is no electricity or cell service. You have to pay cash for everything you purchase. After lunch we headed back to the ship and spent a little time shopping at the pier. Again went to Serenity for sail away. After that we got ready for dinner.

Friday was another sea day. We had to get up early for breakfast because we booked the Behind the Fun Tour. The tour included going backstage of the Blue Saphire Lounge where the lead dancer, Brandon, told us how they prepare for the shows. Then it was off to the galley where the head chef explained how they prepare our meals. We headed to the laundry area. The washing machines they use for towels and lines are huge. Saw where they steam and press the clothes. Saw the engine control room. Far too technical for me! We went to the stores area. This is where all the food is kept. Went to the crew's mess and our tour guide took us to her office where she isin charge of training. Had a cookie and lemonade and then headed up to the bridge. Lots of questions were asked and answered. The view is spectacular from there. Had a photo op with the captian. We then went back to the Neon Lounge where we were give some souvenirs. Our photos were delivered to our room later. Went to the pool for awhile and had lunch (we both got deli sandwiches). Got ready for dinner and the early show. Enjoyed the show. After dinner we walked around for awhile and then went back to the room to pack -- ugh.

Embarkation wasn't too bad. We ate breakast in the MDR and then went back and collected our luggage to wait for our number (one) to be called. We waited in the Starlight Lounge and about 9:30 am someone came and escorted us off the ship. After stopping for some groceries we were home around 12:30 pm.

We had a great time on the Ecstasy and hope to get in another trip before she goes to New Orleans.

We will be on this ship in Sept. and have problems standing for long periods of time. What time would you recommend showing up at the terminal? We don't care how early or late it is, but would like the shortest wait time. Thanks

A lot is going to change at the Galveston terminal between now and next september since the whole terminal is going to be redone to accomodate the larger Magic that will home port there beginning Nov 13th.

But I've sailed out of there 8 or 9 times and the shortest lines will be after 1:30. You could get there earlier but then assuming you aren't VIP the really long line will be getting up the gangway.

So by arriving after 1:30, you should be able to check right in and walk directly onto the ship with little or no standing in line.

Thank you very much Janey.
