MrsHeg Posted February 23, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2005  My DH and I will be taking a cruise on the Holiday soon, and being an asthmatic who is very sensitive to smoke I'm afraid I'll have a problem avoiding it on the trip. Any advise from those who've been on the Holiday? I'm sure my neighbor Cotten can answer this one. Thanks!

Sox_Fan Posted February 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2005 We just sailed Holiday 1/31-2/5. I don't like smoke and was afraid it would be a problem. Here in MA, there is no smoking in bars or restaurants, so we are spoiled. I was pleasantly surprised; it really wasn't a problem at all. There are designated areas on the Lido deck for smoking, so you can avoid it (port side is non-smoking). We had no problem in any of the bars, mostly because there weren't many people in them (?). We had Rick's (the piano bar) practically to ourselves every night (Bri the pianist is great!). Smoking is allowed in the bars, but due to the lack of people, there was also a lack of smoke. The only place I noticed it was in the casino - we smelled it when we walked by - but it also seemed to be the place with the largest crowds. I suppose this could be different cruise to cruise, but our experience was surprisingly smoke-free or close to it most of the time.
Cotton Posted February 23, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2005 :) Hi MrsHeg. I'm assuming you live on the coast, too? The last time I was on the Holiday, I was surprised to find that the Broadway Promenade (inside walkway which goes by the BusStop down to Doc Holidays) - had been designated non-smoking, as it had been a smoking area on the cruise before. It's a nice area with comfy sofas and cocktail tables by floor-to-ceiling windows. Anyway, what I'm saying is that it seems they are trying to make more non-smoking areas available. And yes, one side of the Lido Deck main pool area is designated non-smoking, which even though it's outside, is nice for non-smokers because the patio tables/chairs are so close together. Of course, NO smoking is allowed in the dining rooms, or in the main showroom, nor at the art auctions. My adult son has severe allergy problems, and was concerned about the smoke issue. (He just went on his first cruise in December - on the Holiday.) He said he never detected any smoke smells in his cabin or anywhere on the ship except when passing by the casino, and had no allergic reactions at all.:)
MrsHeg Posted February 23, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted February 23, 2005 :) Thanks for the replies, I feel more assured now. We were going anyway but it's nice to know that I won't be cabin bound trying to breathe. I'm in Biloxi, that's why I called you my neighbor Cotton. Thanks again!
