vanilla

I have read a post on one of these message boards about San Juan being a good place to buy vanilla, not as good as Cozumel, but my ship isn't going there this trip. Has anyone else heard of this? Should I buy it at a grocery store? Are there any in OSJ?

I haven't purchased vanilla there, so I cannot attest to its quality, but I did see vanilla extract for sale at the Spicy Caribbee store, near the Cathedral of San Juan, on Calle del Cristo. Here's their online catalog: http://www.spicycaribbee.com/catalog/category.cgi

 

If your ship is making a stop in St. Maarten, I saw vanilla for sale all over the place there as well.

PR does not grow spices (well, some of us do, but it is not PR's "thing"). So any vanilla you get here will be imported from somewhere else.

St. Maarten is the best place for vanilla. There is a great liquor store on the main shopping street that we buy it from. We buy 5-8 bottles to get us through a year or two. YUM!!!!
