Applying for ETA

I applied this morning for my ETA to Australia. The web site said there was a $20.00 service fee but when it came to the payment area of the site it had a message that said " no payment is due at this time". I was able to continue to submit my application and a couple of hours later I received my Evisitor grant notice with my evisitor grant number.

I am a Uk citizen living in USA. I did this directly with the department of immigration and citizenship. What have other's experiences been, is there a fee or not?

From the Dept of Immigration website:

Who is eVisitor for?

An eVisitor is designed for people who are outside Australia and want to visit Australia for tourism or business purposes.

Tourism includes holidays, recreation and seeing family and/or friends.

Business purposes may include attending a conference, negotiation or exploratory business visit.

How much will an eVisitor cost?

eVisitor applications are free, there is no application charge or service fee.

What does an eVisitor let me do?

You can stay in Australia for up to three months on each visit within a 12 month period from the date of grant.

As a UK passport holder you are eligible for the free visa even if you are a resident of the US. ;) I on the other hand would need an ETA even if a resident of the UK. :(

eVisitor

The eVisitor allows visitors to travel to Australia for short term business or tourism purposes for up to three months. eVisitor applications are free and are available to passport holders from the European Union and a number of other European countries.
