Miami for New Year's Eve and January 1

We will be flying into Miami on December 31st and have the Westin in Coral Gable booked for 2 nights pre-cruise. Does anyone know if restaurants, shops and buses are open on the 31st and 1st? We have 4 young kids with us, so we don't really need anything fancy.
